OUR ACTIVITIES

Empowering Women through Self-Help Groups (SHGs)

In our training session, we will emphasize the fundamental belief that every citizen deserves a life of dignity. We will highlight how poverty serves as a barrier to this dignity and how self-employment through Self Help Groups (SHGs) can play a pivotal role in breaking these shackles. Sagara Education and Development Society (SEDS) has been at the forefront of this mission since 2013, tirelessly promoting, nurturing, and capacitating SHGs for women. Our focus is not just on financial empowerment but also on fostering a sense of self-reliance and community engagement. Through continuous capacity-building efforts, we aim to equip these SHGs with the skills and knowledge necessary to function independently and make informed decisions regarding their economic development.

Empowering Rural Youth Through Digital Literacy

Digital literacy is crucial in education, enabling students to access a wealth of knowledge beyond traditional textbooks. Through our computer training programs, people can learn various skills, including organic farming and health precautions. Notably, the Government of India has initiated the E-Panchayat Mission to enhance governance in rural areas through digital means.

We are dedicated to empowering rural youth through computer training. Our initiatives aim to reduce unemployment in rural areas by fostering self-employment and employment opportunities. This year, our center in Jog Falls extended free coaching classes for 15 days to high school students, benefiting 180 village residents. As a result, over 300 students secured jobs in Bangalore. Courses offered include Computer Basics, Diploma in Computer Applications (DCA), Desktop Publishing (DTP), and Tally 9.0, benefiting 1250, 986, 613, and 396 students, respectively.

National Skill Development Mission

Approved by the Union Cabinet in 2015 on World Youth Skills Day, the National Skill Development Mission aims to unify skill training efforts across sectors and states. It targets individuals with low education levels, who often struggle to secure formal jobs, and seeks to empower rural communities, particularly women, by providing professional skills. Historically marginalized, rural women face significant barriers to economic independence. To address these challenges, Sagara Education and Development Society (SEDS) launched training programs focused on women’s empowerment.

SEDS has been running Tailoring Training Centers for years to enhance the skills and employability of rural communities. These centers address the specific socio-economic needs of the target populations. Many teenage girls, forced to leave school due to poverty, learn vocational skills like tailoring and embroidery, enabling them to earn a sustainable income. The program has benefited 1,103 students, with 553 women starting their own businesses and 158 securing jobs, thereby promoting economic self-sufficiency and reducing dependency.
